unafraid's Diaryland Diary

there's no such thing as the Real World, just a lie you've got to rise above

i would like to think that we - this whole world - have changed. sure, we have discovered new medicines, new machines, new handy devices. we have found cures, founded new charities, started new organizations, and made new laws. we discovered radio, motion pictures, automobiles, the internet, and many other things as time has gone by. but we have also discovered guns, bombs, chemicals, etc. we have discovered ways to use these things against one another to get what we want. or at least we try. some of us are even willing to die trying. to make a difference - some sort of impact.

now let's take a look at terrorism. particularly the recent events that took place in new york city and at the pentagon. these are horrible acts of terrorism shed on america that none of us would like to remember. what has changed now? people have seemed to be more patriotic, more giving, willing to bond with their fellow countryman...at least for the time being. i can garauntee you that you could not go through one whole day without passing a car with an american flag bumper sticker on it. what were the intentions of this act of terrorism? men from another country died trying to make some sort of impact on this nation. what were they trying to say? if you really think about it...they have failed. if they wanted to destroy us and make us fall, they have failed. they've hit us with their best shot and we have held hands at gatherings and stood taller. maybe their act of terrorism was done to make us all suffer. they have done that, but we are too strong now to give up hope. maybe they consider the terrorists on the planes "heros" back in their country. in my book, that is not a hero. the fire fighters, police officers, blood donaters, random people who have donated their time to do whatever they could to help out - they are the real heros. being a hero means saving a life, not taking it.

and i know for all of this to come from ME might be a shock to you. i see signs that say "God Bless America" and i usually roll my eyes. my friends even decorated my car with american flags as a joke because they knew i would be angry. now, i'm not saying that i am an anarchist or anything, it was just all getting to me. i didn't quite understand it. before these acts of terrorism, people had road rage. people would get angry at one another for the simplist things. but then this. and we are all about unity. oh, but in a few months to a year...will things return to their nature? sure, we'll never forget what happened. just like the Oklahoma City Bombing. but when was the last time you actually sat down with another person and discussed that day? a while, right? people have not forgotten it...but stashed the memories away. then something worse happens. we return the feelings of patriotism, even more than before. but in a few years? will the negativity return? you know it's true. every other day of the year we hate each other. God bless Bob Marley and his songs of love, peace, and unity! =) anyway, that's another story for another entry. the point is, how long will the patriotism last? only time will tell. until another act of tradgedy strikes america.

can't you see that we are only hurting ourselves? we are all dust. we are only here for a few years and then off to the other side. or life-after-death as i call it. and do you think it will matter there? the car you drive? the money you have? clothes you wear. job you have. no. what will matter is the blood you gave to save someone else's life. the flowers you gave to cheer someone up. the person you helped out when they dropped their things in the hallway. the person you gave your change to so they could eat a meal. "fruits of the spirit" as they are so often called.

don't let it fade. the unity in america right now. my fear is that it is only a phase. like disco music or saying "Dude!" or having a mullet. terrorism has brought us together. i'm sure the opposite of what it was intended for. let's show them who's boss. we won't back down, we won't give up, and we won't crumble.
